Run Red Run: Odd Jobs

A few odd jobs on a half day-off...

  • Mounted the headlight... you have to install the mounts before the light itself!
  • Added the new taillight to the rear fender (using the extra holes drilled into it).  Then mounted the fender itself.  Nice!
  • Pulled Astrid out for the first time in ages.
    • Pumped up the tires which were flat.
    • Checked to see if gas was flowing.  Discovered that it would flow in Reserve, but nothing flowing out when switched full on.  Figured there was a clog in the filter.  Only when packing up did I bother checking the gas level and saw that it was way below the inlet pipe so of course only the Reserve would work!  Dumb, dumb, dumb...
    • Also realized/remembered that the big reason you can't run a full on S90 head on the CM91 is because the frame blocks the intake/carb.  So you can run the top end but you still have to use the CM91's carb/air filter.
  • Checked the sizing of the new 48mm Flexhone in the CT90 jug and it looked like a good fit.

Run Red Run: License to Ride

Would love to mount the license plate given how much effort it took to actually get the thing.

The new taillight from eBay was in OK shape.  The connections were a little sketchy until I bent the metal tabs forward a bit, hoping to make a stronger connection.

Also added a dedicated ground wire since the paint keeps it from making a connection (how is it actually supposed to work??)

Bulb was good and bright.

Also added the completed clutch to model engine.

Run Red Run: Taillight Unbox

Unboxed the new taillight.  Was in decent shape, though needs a sanding and repaint eventually.

Found that the bulb was good, but only the taillight was working when wired up and even then it was spotty.  The brake light wasn't coming on at all.

Ended up bending the tabs in the housing upwards so that they'd make more contact with the bulb and that seemed to do the trick.

But then found that you can't ground to the mount itself because of the paint... but if that's true, then how was it supposed to work.  Realized it was a lot easier and more reliable to just add a separate dedicated ground wire.

Also built up and installed the clutch on the model engine.

Red: License and Registration!

Back to DMV and this time got plates!
