Birthday Garage: CB100 Frame Unboxing!

Birthday Garage Session!

Special treat: unboxing the new 1971 CB100 frame (#201575)

$60 on eBay plus $114 shipping.

Frame seems in good enough shape and also included the main stand and the steering head.

The center stand pipe actually wouldn't fit neatly through, seemed to be hanging up because the end had been deformed (someone probably hammered it out).  Had to file it down quite a bit before it fit.

Also testing out the new folding table (personal bday present from Home Depot), which worked a treat.

Garage: Organization Day, Unbox New Frames

Unboxed the two new frames, the black and "turquoise" (?) one.

Realized that along with the white, I know have one of each of the three versions sitting naked in the garage.

Turquoise frame is in fantastic shape.  Super, super clean.

Unboxing the New Frame

First look at the new frame.  She's in pretty bad shape, but still... a numbered frame, and they're not getting easier to find.

Verified the last number of the frame number: 444-526

Seems like she'll end up with the nickname of Vee for "fifth"?

Red: Stand Before You Walk

Red gets off the ground for the first time.

Tried to remove the rear brake, but was completely stymied.  The thing wouldn't budge.  Asking the Yahoo group for advice.

Was glad to see the seat pan fit, but looks like it's a different tank mount (as compared to Viola).

Red: Unboxing and Roloc bristle discs

Got some new parts and old parts, namely an original center stand along with new hardware for it from Bike Bandit.  Also got a used rear axle along with hardware.

Tested the Roloc bristle pad (green) on the center stand.  Seems to work pretty well, but still not the "magic" I was hoping for when it comes to nooks and crannies.

Working the Roloc...

Red: Bike Rescue!

Welcome a new bike (well, at least the frame) to the family.  Tom from the S90 Yahoo group was basically giving it away for the cost of shipping, and had no takers.  I don't think I would have jumped on it except he said if no one grabbed it, she was headed to the junk yard.  I couldn't stand the thought!

So... now she's got a new home.  Good timing, actually, as I'd been giving serious thought to starting "clean" with just a frame and building out everything from the ground up.
