Viola: Roloc Session #6 and Toggle Switch Out!

Another Roloc session around the ears and front of the frame.

Also finally got that toggle switch out!  Just Dremeled it with a cutting wheel until the outer ring fell off and freed the switch.

Red: New (Smaller) Headlight Mounts

Got a set of cheap (Chinese) mounts that are much shorter and bring the headlight back toward the frame.  They don't look that great, though, and now that I see the headlight set back, I'm not sure I like it as much.  I left it on for now...

Spares: Mikuni Carb Cleaning

Took apart the Mikuni.  It looks really good... except for the fact that the spring loaded door on the choke door was missing.  Probably the one piece that will be impossible to find.  Though if you can start the bike without choking it, you're all set.

Took it apart and did a 2-hour PineSol soak followed by a quick scrub with the toothbrush.

Viola: Roloc Session #5

Testing the new 1" green discs I got.  They're working well for the smaller, harder to reach areas.

Viola: Engine Cleaning

The least fun but most rewarding job: engine cleaning.

Red: Where's the Fork Seal?

Disassembled Red's right fork to remember how the whole thing worked.  Pretty straight-forward.  And looks like the fork seal is in the chrome piece (the one with the holes for the pin wrench).  The rubber seal is underneath a metal circle.

Spares: Mikuni Carb

Got this cheap ($20) Mikuni carb for a reference piece.  And maybe I could even rebuild it.

Red: Front Axle Fixed, New Bash Guard

Got the new front axle that had clean 1.25 (fine) threads.  At first the new axle nut didn't seem to turn easily on it (again!).  But then I ran the nut onto the rear axle, which served as something of a tap and just took off that tiny bit of material.  After that the nut threaded just fine.  Done and done.

Also cleaned the new CL90 engine guard and installed it.  It has four holes that match the peg mounts, and then two smaller holes that actually match up to the cylinder jug.

But the holes in the cylinder are a bit odd in that they are 5mm but don't seem to be threaded.  Yet it doesn't seem like there could be a nut on the other end.  Need to find a schematic to see what the original intent was.

Viola: Steering Head Off

Steering head came off Viola for the first time.  Thought the upper race was stuck in place so I was wedging it off with a screwdriver when it suddenly popped free.  The steering head fell out and I heard the sound of ball bearings dropping everywhere.

Unfortunately, found that the forks were frozen solidly in place where they're held by the steering head.  Maybe heat could free them...?
