Spares: Shifting

Took out the transmission from both the Early and Late cases to photograph the different fork bolts for the the Puzzler site.

Realized how odd it was that the counter shaft bearing had just "fallen out" of the case.  How is that possible when it should be such a tight fit?  Clymer says that you can't just hammer it in like you would a normal bearing.  You have to heat the case, freeze the bearing, and then it should literally drop into place.  What are the chances...?

The tranny in the Early case works very smoothly, and for the first time I clearly could watch the gears engage and disengage as I turned the mainshaft while also spinning the drum.  All gears clearly engaged, including neutral.

Also tested the trick of using a magnet to pull the fork pin out (suggested by Bill from the Yahoo Group).  Didn't get the pin out entirely, but it did move it.  Think I just need a stronger magnet.
