Testing some new Krylon metallic stainless steel paint.
Realized Viola's clutch cover does fit the spare bottom end, except for they both have locating dowels in the same place. Would have to free one to get them together.
Unfortunately, the gaskets that came with Roxy's spares were the same as the ones I had. In other words, they don't fit the crankcase covers.
Viola's gasket is gone (did I remove it?), but it appears it would have fit around the oil screen.

Roxy: Static Timing
It's going to rain all week, so I figured I'd set Roxy's static timing and if I messed anything up, at least I won't miss any nice weather.
It was very retarded and also I noticed the points plate itself was not exactly lined up to the mark. Again, who knows whether all this is intentional (I really should have at least documented it when I first got the bike).
But she's been getting harder to start, even in warm weather. So I'll see if this changes anything.'
I did start her right after making the change, and it took 6 kicks at 52 degrees, but I think I may have forgotten to switch the petcock on, so I'll drop the results of this test and try again tomorrow.

Viola: One Good Carb
Prepping the K1 carb to test it on Viola's running engine. Found the K1's valve pin to be sticking, so I replaced it with the one from the "B" carb. Had to reset the float height afterwards (19.5), but with that done, she seemed to be in good working order with no leaks.
For reference: the K1 now has B's float valve and seat but kept the better gasket. Thus B now has K1's seat and valve (but same old gasket).

Spare Engine: I Hate Gaskets
Tested the 3 bottom end gaskets from the kit against the spare. Not looking so good.
This one almost fits, except there's an extra hole at the bottom right corner and it sticks out past the cover.

This one seems like it fit at first, but it completely blocks the oil filter screen, which doesn't seem right.
This one might be ok, but just because it fits all the contours and holes doesn't mean it has all the cutouts in the right place.

Astrid: Start and Start Again
Pulled the camshaft to do the pencil test and confirmed it's an S90 grind. While I was at it, I also re-gapped the plug (narrowed it a bit), set the exhaust valve clearance (opened it up a bit), and set the static timing back to the mark (it was a little advanced).
Bike started with three kicks off of 6.33V, but also unfortunately found some oil leaks.

Roxy vs Viola: Muffler Madness
Looks like Roxy has the "late" (why late if she's supposed to be '64?) 2-piece muffler with 2 mounting points. Viola has the single piece version that has a bolt that goes through the mount point and then secured with a nut.

Spare Engine: Puzzle Pieces
Did a little inventory of the other parts that came with the spare bottom end. So looks like I have:
The oil filter in the clutch basket.
Took awhile to figure out where this bearing went. For reference, it goes on the end of the countershaft into the recess in the left crankcase cover (on the opposite side would then go the chain sprocket).
- left and right crankcase
- complete transmission (but missing the thrust washer)
- kickstarter
- primary driven gear and circlip
- clutch basket and hardware
- crankshaft and connecting rod
- cam assembly (no chain, but one came with Roxy's spares)
