Roxy: New Headlight

Testing the new Dime City 6-1/4" headlight on Evie, looking to replace Roxy's stock.

Got the wrong mounts - AGAIN!  They are way too long and extend out too far...

Roxy Reborn

Second try getting Roxy started.

Compression test was good, coming in at 110 cold.

Played with the carb settings a bit and actually got a couple coughs and even an idle that lasted for a few seconds.  At that point, at least I knew it had the possibility of running.

Immediately decided to swap out the carb to be sure.  Went with the Sheng since it had also been a runner before.

Swapped over easily, deciding to loop the gas line so it wouldn't be as hard to remove later.

And... she starts right up!!

Good news, she's a runner again.  Slightly bad news, not sure what's up with that Keihin CS90C.  Hoping to get that sorted out so it's solid again.

Let her idle for a few mins and she ran fine.  Shut her down for a bit then started again and she came right up.

Roxy II: Top End First Try

Putting Roxy's top end back together with the goal of getting her back on the road with a few custom modifications.

Swapped out the temporary bad jug with the +.25 that came off Red.

Had to open a new gasket set to get the one that goes between the crankcase and the jug.

Had a little trouble with getting the baseplate on without messing up the oil spring but was able to finesse it on.

Installed the CS90C (#1) carb which seemed like the best bet since it had been in use on both Red and Ivy in the past.

Initially had a lead out of the drain screw and had to cut a DIY gasket out of an old ripped intake paper gasket.  Also had gas out the overflow, but that stopped after a few good taps on the bowl.

Went for first kick and found it was very, very tight.  It was a hard push all the way through the cycles.  And not so much as a cough.

Checked spark and it was ok.  Replaced the plug anyway.  Still nothing.

End the day stymied!

Carb Audit

Sorting and auditing carbs.  Found they actually fit nicely into the new Husky cantilever box.

Was able to strip down one of the perished carbs for parts, including swapping over the choke to a more complete one (which is a bit of a finicky job).

Ivy: Motone Shift

Ivy gets her own Motone shift.  In retrospect,  maybe should have gone for black again, but looks decent enough.  And the actual feel of shifting is excellent.

Keihin Carb: New Studs

Seeing if we can rescue the CS90 Keihin (#2) with new studs and plenty of loctite.  Could have sworn I tried this the last time and it didn't hold, but too much time has passed and now I don't see why it shouldn't work!

Red: Exhaust Stud

Very relieved that I was able to thread a new exhaust stud and it seemed to hold well.  Used plenty of blue loctite.

Red: DIY Camshaft Pin #2

Red started and ran for 10 seconds before dying.  Wouldn't restart.  Good spark but not even a cough.

On inspection, discovered the DIY camshaft pin for the race cam had come out and the advance was not aligned.

Cut a new longer, thicker pin and she started right up.

Red: DRATV Race Cam

Second try installing the race cam.

Slowly but surely determined that the thick end (the end toward the cam sprocket) was the part binding up on the head.

Ended up filing it down little by little until I was able to get it installed easily with no rubbing.

Red: Swap Exhaust

Swap Red's exhaust to Roxy's (the one with the baffle) to test if that changes power delivery.  (it doesn't...)

Evie: Tank Rubber

Testing new rubber for Evie's tank.  Realized it's pretty fiddly to get the tank tab into the rubber.  Must be a trick to it...  Checked Ivy and actually just ended up skipping the rubber altogether.

Ivy: Step Bar Switch

Swapped out the deep bar for a more shallow one.
